Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Friday.
The number of active cases in the region stood at 49, according to data reported by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. Six people in the region were hospitalized with COVID, including four in critical care.
No new COVID-related deaths were reported in the region, leaving northern B.C.'s death toll from the pandemic at 155.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said the province's vaccination campaign has delivered a total of 4.7 million doses to British Columbians.
"Today, we are reporting 77.6 (per cent) of all adults in B.C. and 76.2 (per cent) of those 12 and older have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine," Henry and Dix said. "In addition, 26.9 (per cent) of all adults in B.C. and 25.2 (per cent) of those 12 and older have received their second dose."
A total of 222,463 doses have been administered in north – 156,662 first doses and 65,841 second doses, according to B.C. CDC data.
"This weekend, with the anticipated extreme hot weather throughout the province, we remind everyone in British Columbia to stay cool and hydrated - whether you will be going to a vaccine clinic or spending time with friends and family outside," Henry and Dix said. "Our mass clinics are indoors, and many pop-up clinics have moved to cooler, indoor locations. If you have a vaccine appointment at a pop-up clinic or are planning to drop in, check the location before you go, wear a hat and sunscreen, and bring water."
