Ferguson Lake hosts fun day Sunday

Prince George's largest urban lake is drawing walkers and explorers this weekend.

While the city has a significant number of large ponds, wetlands, creeks and rivers, Ferguson Lake in the northwest corner of the city is the biggest body of lake water. "Ferguson Lake is a hidden jewel in our community with a lovely trail around the lake to walk and explore," said Kristi Francis, chair of the Hart Community Association.

The association, with support from Save-On-Foods, is hosting the annual Ferguson Family Fun Day on Sunday. The official festivities happen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting with a guided walk around the lake, followed by "earthy crafts," and cost-reduced refreshments like hot dogs and watermelon.

"This is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Ferguson Lake and build a sense of community amongst Hart residents," said Francis. "Bring along your fishing rod or butterfly catchers and enjoy the day."

Located just off North Kelly Road on Ferguson Lake Road, this nature reserve is situated on 18.4 hectares and includes a unique 3 km trail system surrounding the small lake.
