Feds deliver cash for Canfor Pulp upgrade projects

The federal Conservative government delivered $15 million to Canfor Pulp Wednesday from its $1-billion Green Transformation Fund for two projects meant to reduce air pollution and increase energy production.

The federal Conservative government delivered $15 million to Canfor Pulp Wednesday from its $1-billion Green Transformation Fund for two projects meant to reduce air pollution and increase energy production.

Canfor has already started on the two projects, and plans to submit submissions for two others. Canfor Pulp, which operates three pulp mills in Prince George employing 1,100 people, is eligible for $122 million in subsidies under the federal program. The federal subsidies were announced in 2009 to offset massive American subsidies that were already being utilized across the border.

The projects must be complete by April 2012 under the federal government's guidelines.

Conservative MP Stockwell Day, president of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, said he is confident Canfor Pulp will make the deadline.
