A father and son have been sentenced to jail time after they were caught trying to steal a bait truck earlier this year.
Devin Andrew Jacobs, 26, was sentenced to 30 months behind bars and father Dennis Alexander Jacobs, 50, was handed a two-year term both on charges of theft over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.
Both had pleaded guilty after their actions on April 8 were caught on video by police. The two were able to go on a 10-minute joyride before police shut down the engine by remote control.
That left the two to make a run for it in the vicinity of Wilson Park at the north end of Ospika Boulevard but with the help of a tracking dog, the son was soon apprehended by Mounties who had converged on the scene. The father was found and arrested several days later.
Both have lengthy criminal records.
