Cheryl Bowman, 42, of Chetwynd has been identified as the woman who died at the scene of a head-on collision last Thursday on Highway 97 just outside the community, the B.C. Coroners Service said Tuesday.

Investigators determined the 2003 Cadillac sedan she was driving crossed the centre line and struck a southbound 2011 Ford 150 crew cab pickup truck, occupied by a family from Taylor, just south of Fort St. John.

Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother and father in the pickup suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, their two children, both under age 10, escaped injury, but the family's dog was killed on impact.

Police were called to the scene at about 11:30 a.m. and the stretch remained closed to traffic for about nine hours.
