Fatal crash claims two lives on Highway 16

Two people died Wednesday after the car they were travelling in collided with a logging truck. At 5:46 p.m., Vanderhoof RCMP and North District traffice Services were called to the scene on Highway 16 near Guest Road, east of Vanderhoof.

Two people died Wednesday after the car they were travelling in collided with a logging truck.

At 5:46 p.m., Vanderhoof RCMP and North District traffice Services were called to the scene on Highway 16 near Guest Road, east of Vanderhoof.

RCMP determined that a Chevrolet Cavalier, which was travelling west on Highway 16, crossed the centre line and then struck a loaded logging truck. The two people in the car were declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the logging truck was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

The investigation continues and the cause for the crash is yet to be determined.

Witnesses indicated that the car may have lost control prior to colliding with the logging truck. No names have been released. The RCMP are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information on the accident to call the North District Traffic Services at: 250-649-4004.
