A stretch of Highway 16 two kilometres east of Burns Lake remained closed this morning after firery crash killed a 43-year-old woman late last night.
Witnesses told police the woman's eastbound sport utility vehicle collided with a westbound commercial transport truck and both vehicles became engulfed in flames upon impact.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at 10:22 p.m.
The transport truck driver was taken to Lake District Hospital with minor injuries.
The name of the deceased is not being released due to ongoing efforts to notify next of kin.
As of 9:30 a.m. today, the stretch remained closed as investigators gathered evidence.
