One man is dead following an Saturday afternoon avalanche near Valemount.
The slide was triggered at Goat Ridge in the Clemina Creek area, about 30 kilometres south of the village off Highway 5.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m., Valemount RCMP received information of several SPOT distress beacons, along with GPS coordinates being activated int he Clemina Creek snowmobile area.
Search and rescue teams deployed out of Valemount and McBride advised the RCMP that several snowmobilers were in the area at the time of the avalanche and confirmed one person was found buried and confirmed deceased.
The body was not immediately recovered as avalanche technicians deemed the area as high risk and posing a danger to emergency crews trying to enter the area.
RCMP are warning the public and outdoor enthusiasts to stay away from the area and to visit the Canadian Avalanche Centre website (www.avalanche.ca) for any future updates.
