On Jan. 28, just one week after her 21st birthday, Lexi Augustson was in a terrible accident.

After 45 minutes of effort, paramedics and doctors at University Hospital of Northern B.C. were able to get her heart beating, but she had also suffered a massive head trauma which left her without brain activity. A day later, she was declared deceased. But it turned out she was an organ donor and, a few days later, was able to provide organs to save the lives of five people.

"Lexi was the kind of person to pull over and help if she saw you needed it, she’d give her last dime to anyone who asked, she was always there when we needed her," her sister, Brittney Locke said. "So naturally when we found out that she had signed the organ donation form, we knew her heart beat again for a reason, even if that reason meant she wasn’t going to stay with us."

Locke has started a campaign on GoFundMe to help her parents defray the costs of cremation and funeral costs, as well as estate lawyer and legal fees, all estimated to cost at least $8,500.

"My mom and dad still have six children at home," Locke said. "They recently moved to PG and bought a house that they have slowly been fixing up. No one could see this coming, it was a fluke accident that we couldn’t prepare for."
