Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond has added another title to her already crowded business card.
This morning, B.C. Finance Minister Kevin Falcon announced his immediate resignation from his cabinet position and that he will not be running in the 2013 provincial election.
Premier Christy Clark has asked Bond - already Attorney General, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General - to step in as the acting finance minister.
Bond already serves as deputy chair of the Treasury Board and alternate finance minister.
"Kevin has been the hardest working finance minister in the country and I want to thank him for keeping us on a strong, fiscal footing, with a triple A credit rating despite the worst global recession in generations," Clark said.
Falcon said he made this decision for "both personal and practical reasons," including anticipating the birth of his second child in February and wanting to return to the private sector after 12 years in public life.
"Putting aside the timing associated with the newest addition to our family in February, I genuinely believe the Premier requires a finance minister who will prepare a budget and make taxation/spending measures that he or she will be prepared to defend in the upcoming election campaign," Falcon said.
