The earthquake-sparked tsunami that broadsided Japan's northeast coast late last week has also sent shockwaves through the country's Prince George community where some are scrambling to get updates on friends and family across the Pacific.
The twin disaster was the topic of conversation at the Sendo Sushi Hut in Bon Voyage Plaza on Saturday afternoon where Seiko Watanabe, and her husband George, stopped by for a bite and to exchange news with the restaurant's owners, Akira and Moaki Goto.
"It's...I'm trying to find the word...surreal," said Watanabe as she leafed through the photos and stories from a pile of newspapers.
