Explosive seizure leads to probation

Edward Thomas Harris was sentenced to jail time served and 18 months probation Monday on charges related to seizure of, an explosive device from, a rural property in May.

Thomas was also issued a lifetime firearms prohibition on convictions of possessing a prohibited weapon without a licence and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order.

Harris was arrested on May 19 when police sized a "sophisticated improvised explosive device" on a property on Alpine Road east of Prince George and it was detonated the next day at a gravel pit.

A .22-calibre rifle, a stun gun and a quantity of cocaine and marijuana were also found at the site.

Harris was sentenced at the Prince George courthouse.
