North District RCMP traffic services say a driver was caught Wednesday going at a speed that would have been considered dangerous on a sunny, summer day let alone in the middle of the winter.
An officer was heading along Highway 16 near Isle Pierre Road when, at about 11:45 a.m., he saw a 2011 Ford F350 pickup truck registered to a local business traveling at 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. And due to snow and ice buildup, a speed of 70 to 90 km/h would have been more appropriate, RCMP said.
The driver was issued a ticket for excessive speeding, which carries a $368 fine, and for failing to display the N sign that novice drivers must post on their vehicles. The driver could also be subject to a driving prohibition and, once the term is over, will have to accumulate an additional 24 months of prohibition-free driving to graduate from the graduated licensing program.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days and, because it was a company truck, WorkSafe B.C. was called in to investigate.
