Evacuation alert rescinded in Valemount

Landslide prompted an evacuation alert for 40 homes on July 31

A landslide near Valemount ona slope close to Swift Creek is threatening the water supply of the village, 292 km southeast of Prince George.

The Village of Valemount and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George have rescinded the evacuation alert in the area of the Swift Creek landslide.

The alert was first issued on July 31 for roughly 40 properties on the northeast side of Main Street in Valemount, beginning at Williams Road. The slide threatened the village’s water supply from Swift Creek, and monitoring of water levels in the creek is ongoing.

Trail closures in the area have been lifted, but the district reminded residents to use caution when in the backcountry.
