The local Enbridge office has found a home and it will be opening regardless of whether or not the Northern Gateway pipeline project gets final approval, said a company spokesperson.
Enbridge manager of corporate and western access communications Todd Nogier said the office opening is still a few weeks away.
"There's no firm date just yet we can announce," he said.
The former Integris Credit Union storefront at Parkwood Place is currently being refitted for the office, which will be the local home for the company's B.C. operations.
Last month, a contractor submitted a building permit to the city for more than $250,000 worth of work for the space.
Enbridge executive vice-president for western access Janet Holder is currently working out of her home office in Prince George, said Nogier.
"So this office will allow her to have a full-fledged office location for her and the rest of the staff in Prince George," he said.
In addition to Holder, about a dozen employees will staff the site and will work on community relations as well as other B.C. work.
Unlike the office set up in Kitimat, the Prince George office is not specific to the Northern Gateway project.
"As it's an Enbridge office, the expectation is that it's going to be supporting Enbridge activities and that is regardless of the regulatory ruling of Northern Gateway," Nogier said.
Holder first announced the establishment of the permanent local office during a presentation to the Prince George Chamber of Commerce in July.
