Enbridge community meeting taking place

The Sea to Sands Conservation Alliance is hosting a community meeting to discuss the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway project.

The Sea to Sands Conservation Alliance is hosting a community meeting to discuss the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway project.

"It is a project that, if approved by the federal government, will see crude oil being shipped from the tar sands to the Kitimat port via pipeline for the first time ever," said a statement from the group. "En route the twin pipelines (carrying oil in one and toxic byproduct of natural gas in the other) would cross close to 1,000 rivers and streams in northern British Columbia. Many of these are tributaries of the biggest salmon runs in the world (for instance the Fraser and Skeena watersheds)."

The group will present points of view about the risks and issues associated with the project, offer the public a chance to share ideas, and meet other concerned citizens.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Artspace.
