UPDATE: Alcohol believed to be a factor in single-vehicle incident

Cpl. Craig Douglass with Prince George RCMP says a full-size pickup suffered extensive damage after striking a light standard. 

A 20-year-old male was removed from the truck and taken to hospital with serious injuries. 

Police believe the vehicle was travelling eastbound at the time of the accident. 

Alcohol is believed to be a factor, Mounties say.

Traffic is flowing again.

8:45 a.m.

Mounties in Prince George and emergency personnel remain on scene of a single-vehicle accident that has sent one person to hospital with serious injuries. 

Prince George Mounties say they received a report of the crash on Highway 16 East at Boundary Road just after 3 a.m. this morning. 

When police and emergency responders arrived, they found a single vehicle had struck a pole. The lone occupant was removed from the car and taken to hospital with what police say are serious injuries. 

Drivers should expect delays in traffic. 

Prince George RCMP is asking anybody who witnessed the crash to contact the detachment at 250-561-3300.
