A Prince George man has been issued a 30-month driving prohibition for a wild and drunken drive that began in the city's downtown.
Kristian Mikael Rahkola, 23 was also sentenced to 18 days in jail and two years probation for dangerous driving and flight from a peace officer and fined $1,000 for driving while impaired during a hearing Wednesday in provincial court.
In a statement issued at the time of his arrest, Prince George RCMP said they had received multiple calls about a pickup truck being driven erratically in downtown around 2 p.m. on July 25.
A short time later, police officers spotted the suspect vehicle leaving downtown and attempted to stop the truck but the driver refused to pull over and, because of the heavy traffic, the officers stopped the pursuit.
Officers went to the home of the registered owner of the vehicle in the Hart area. When he arrived in the area, the driver drove straight at two marked police vehicles, according to police. The RCMP officers were able to evade the truck and avoid being hit.
The truck and driver were spotted at an address off Knight Crescent a short time later and police were able to take the suspect into custody, with some resistance.
No injuries were reported in the various incidents.
Rahkola was released on bail after his arrest but by Sept. 1 he was back in custody and has remained there ever since after twice breaching his recognizance. Convictions for uttering threats and resisting arrest were also added to his criminal record as a result of those two incidents.
