Eric Wayde Thor Johnson was sentenced Thursday to a further 40 days in jail after Prince George RCMP caught him driving a stolen pickup truck.
Prior to sentencing, Johnson, 30, had been in custody for for 110 days since his arrest Nov. 1, 2013 when police were monitoring a local pub and saw him behind the wheel despite being prohibited from driving.
Police also believed there was a warrant out for his arrest on another matter, the court heard.
When police approached the truck, Johnson got out and jumped into a neighbouring vehicle, presumably driven by a friend, and yelled "go, go." When police opened the back door, he opened the other and ran away. When police caught up with him, he became compliant.
Police later determined the truck was stolen and fitted with licence plates stolen from another vehicle.
Johnson's criminal record includes five convictions for theft or possession of stolen property, four for driving while prohibited and three for driving while prohibited.
Johnson was also issued a five-year driving prohibition upon sentencing in Prince George Provincial Court.
