The driver and lone occupant was declared deceased at the scene Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 97 South, just north of Red Bluff Road near Quesnel.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene at 8:44 a.m. where they found the driver pinned in the driver's seat.

The vehicle was heading north when it went off the right side of the road, overturned and came to rest in the ditch, Quesnel RCMP Cpl. K.P. Banse said in a release.

"A witness described seeing the vehicle swerving intermittently previous to the collision and watched as the vehicle left the roadway," Banse said.

The highway was reduced to single-lane alternating for about four hours while an investigation was conducted. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

The victim's name was not released.
