Northbreast Passage in Prince George is among 22 dragon boat racing teams in B.C. receiving grants to assist in promoting healthier lives.

The growing team of 38 members has not yet received the funds from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region, which designates the funds as a way to celebrate the fact that women can lead healthy lives after breast cancer.

The 2010 grant of $50,000 will be divided between the 22 B.C. teams and more than 500 breast cancer survivors

Northbreast Passage member Glenys Hogan said the Prince George group will use the funds for education, promotion and racing costs.

This summer the team, which practices paddling skills on West Lake, plans to enter the annual Penticton festival in September, Hogan said. Read more in The Citizen
