Downtown Prince George has cancelled Downtown Winterfest for a second year, due to COVID-19 concerns.

The annual winter market and festival is normally planned for the second Sunday in February, however the event has not been held since Feb. 9, 2020.

“Back in the late fall, we had really hoped that the world of event hosting would fully return and were thrilled when we secured provincial funding to host Downtown Winterfest”, Downtown Prince George executive director Colleen Van Mook said in a press release. “The BC Fairs, Festivals and Events Recovery Fund was based on supporting the safe restart of in-person events in BC Communities and it was exciting to know that our event was recognized as an important community gathering. The good news is that the province has extended all of its funding approvals for one year and that means we will plan to celebrate winter in downtown Prince George in 2023.”

Downtown Winterfest ran from 2017 to 2020, and features a winter playground, family activities, ice carving, s’more contest and more.
