Downtown Prince George's Plaid Friday holiday season kick off is set for tomorrow.

A "relaxing alternative" to the hustle and bustle of Black Friday at malls and big box stores, it's a chance to support independent businesses in the city's downtown.

The Hubspace at 1299 3rd Avenue will be the Plaid Friday headquarters with kids' crafts, photos with Santa and free giveaways.

Between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., shoppers who bring in their receipts to from any of the participating businesses will get a chance to win some Love Downtown PG swag. The first 12 visitors will also take home a new snow shovel.

And between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., there will be a chance to get a photo with Santa by donation to Community Partners Addressing Homelessness.

Everyone is encouraged to show up in their best plaid, whether they're out shopping or at work. Those who do are welcome to post their selfies on the Love Downtown PG Facebook page and be entered to win a free lunch for up to 10 people, catered by White Goose Bistro.

The perks for shopping downtown won't end there. Starting tomorrow and continuing until January 3, shoppers can enter the Downtown Prince George holiday draw at any of over 40 participating downtown stores and restaurants. It's a chance to win one of three Plaid Friday prize packages.
