The PGX got off to a rough start Wednesday as a torrential downpour and high winds sent fairgoers scrambling for cover just as the gates had opened.
The worst of the weather subsided within about a half-hour but the sky remained grey and the thunder continued to rumble and an Environment Canada severe weather warning remained in effect.
Food booths remained shut down while staff uprighted fallen tents and the crew for the 54-40 concert, set for later in the night at the Silver Stetson stage, were assessing the possible damage. But the midway remained ready to start operating at 6 p.m.
"We've got a lot of things to check," PGX president Nancy Loreth said as she peered out into the rain from the exhibition's office.
Keep an eye on the sky, organizers were advising, for those unsure whether to venture out last night or wait for better weather to arrive.
The weather is forecast for improvement today with a mainly sunny sky and a high of 21 C, Environment Canada is predicting.
Gates open at 10 a.m. while the midway gets up and running at 11 a.m.
The Celebration! Community Stage will be busy with entertainment all day long, including ventriloquist Neale Bacon, Johnny Cash tribute artist Daryl Weyman, gospel singing, the Prince George Magic Club, the Senioritas Gypsy Dancers, singers Paige Marriot, Martin Bodo and Rachelle Morgan, soft rock group Triforce and the ska-reggae group Highball Riot.
And keep an eye out for strolling entertainers Dan the One Man Band and the Mountain Men.
The West Coast Lumberjack show is set for Discovery Place 2 at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
And at the Agriplex, 4-H horse equitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon, the Canadian breed show, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., the 4-H beef showmanship from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the barrel racing stack starting at 5 p.m.
At the Silver Stetson stage, Sound Addiction is set for 7 p.m., followed by country performer Rick Stavely and PG Idol winner Caitlyn McCauley at 8 p.m. and then iconic Canadian rock band The Stampeders at 9:30 p.m.
