There is more than just one Kayla Bourque from Prince George and while one is a convicted animal killer, the other is "totally the opposite," says her grandmother.
"She's a cat lover, she loves her family, she loves her friends," said Audrey Bourque of her granddaugher.
Both are 23 years old and both grew up in Prince George, but the similarities end there, Audrey said.
Her granddaughter lives in New Westminster and is about to attend Douglas College.
The other studied criminology and psychology at Simon Fraser University last year until another student told a teaching assistant that Bourque mentioned some of her crimes and that she may have spoken about her fantasies of killing a homeless person.
She was released from custody this week to live in Vancouver on a long list of conditions over concern she may act on violent impulses.
"It was kind of freaky, I feel so bad for my granddaughter," Audrey said.
The law-abiding Kayla Bourque could not be reached Wednesday, but did tell The Province newspaper they didn't attend any of the same schools and never met face-to-face.
"It's definitely frustrating," she said. "Her name is going to be everywhere and that means my name is going to be everywhere."
