A proposal to increase the city's animal control fees will go before city council on Monday night.

If approved, the fee for a dog licence for a spayed or neutered dog will cost $27.50, a $2.50 increase, while the licence for dogs not spayed or neutered will cost $66, a $6 increase.

For a dangerous dog, the fee will will rise by $10 to $110 for a spayed or neutered dog and by $25 to $275 for one not spayed or neutered.

Discounts will remain in place for licences purchased on or before Jan. 31 of each calendar year and prorated fees will also remain in place for licences purchased after Sept. 1, but will also be subject to increases ranging from $1.50 to $5.

The same goes for impoundment fees and the cost of a kennel licence would rise by $14 to $154.

It's expected the hikes will generate an extra $15,000 in 2011. There has not been an increase since 2004, staff said in a report to council.
