After the dissolution of Initiatives Prince George, the regional district has put its economic development eggs in the city of Prince George's basket.
During Thursday afternoon's board meeting, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George directors agreed to sign a two-year agreement with the city's new economic development department.
The regional district had an ongoing relationship with Initiatives Prince George for business development outside of the city. In the past, the economic development arm liaised with prospective investors, particularly those looking at heavy industrial sites such as Hart North, Clear Lake, Isle Pierre and Willowcale.
The $20,000 agreement expires at the end of December 2017.
In a presentation to the board, new economic development manager Melissa Barcellos said nine heavy industry site requests came through IPG last year, eight of which remain in the decision-making process, while one developer decided to locate elsewhere.
"It's convenient for investors to have one point of contact and economic development staff will work with regional district staff collaboratively when it's needed," Barcellos said.
During her presentation, Barcellos also touted the new advisory committee on economic development, created by city council on Nov. 30.
The city is now accepting applications for the five community member spots on that committee, which is expected to meet monthly.
Application forms are available on the city's website or on the fifth floor at City Hall and are due Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.
