Residents are being asked to weigh in on the regional district's trash plan.
An online survey is available to provide feedback as the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George's solid waste management plan goes under review.
The plan maps out programs, policies and infrastructure to minimize the amount of waste sent to the landfill, increase recycling opportunities, address the closure and monitoring of the small dumps and look at the management of construction and demolition waste.
Among the sites under the regional districts watch are the Foothills Boulevard and Mackenzie landfills and the Quinn Street, Vanway, Miworth, Summit Lake, Shelley and Buckhorn transfer stations. Approved in 2009, the current plan is in need of updating, thanks to a variety of changes in the waste management landscape, including the latest addition of printed paper and packaging to the province's stewardship program.
"It's a good time to review our solid waste management system and assess options that will ensure this regional district remains environmentally and economically sustainable," said Rachael Ryder, RDFFG waste diversion program leader.
The survey is available at www.rdffg.bc.ca until July 3. The public will have another opportunity to provide feedback once a draft report of survey responses and stakeholder meetings is compiled.
