Fraser-Fort George Regional District directors are recommending the land be removed from the Agricultural Land Commission so Graymont Western Canada Inc. can build a conveyor between a lime plant and quarry in the works for the Giscome area.

Directors made the move Thursday in forwarding Graymont's application to the Agricultural Land Commission. The conveyor would transport lime over four kilometres from the quarry to the plant.

Land was removed from the ALR in 2014 to make way for the processing plant.

Next steps for Graymont include securing a permit from the provincial government's Major Mines Permitting Office to discharge waste water into Bateman Creek once it has been run through sedimentation ponds.

The Eaglet Lake Farmers' Institute says it has taken a "watchdog" position towards the project.
