In the past two years, a Prince George initiative has raised $190,000 towards the purchase of much-needed hospital equipment.
Today (April 13), a third kick-off commenced as the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and Copper Falls Custom Homes are teaming up to bring in even more funds to help move the healthcare system forward despite the uncertain times of COVID-19.
Copper Project 2021 will see a newly-built, custom-designed, 3,085 sq-ft. home in the Forest Park Subdivision, to which a donation from the eventual sale will go to Spirit of the North.
This marks the first time the company will build a house in College Heights. The first two were placed near Aberdeen Glen.
“We are delighted to enter into year three with such amazing support,” said Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation CEO Judy Neiser.
“CopperFalls’ vision, shared with their sub-trades, contractors and suppliers, together building a first class home is innovative and so generous. We are so very grateful for this partnership. It’s humbling to have so many very incredible people come together for such an amazing project in the community.”
In 2020, a $100,000 donation was made from the Copper Project and supported, what Spirit of the North describes as, areas in constant need of it, such as paediatrics, mental health and wellness and cardiac care.
The inaugural project in 2019 raised $90,000 for equipment in breast health Imaging, a dedicated Maternal Operating Room and the purchase of four Ortho Video Operating Room Towers.
“All of these areas are constantly changing and can only be improved in the area of diagnostics, detection, treatment and care with the help of such immense donations,” a statement reads.
“While COVID has definitely been top of mind this past year, we recognize that for many there are other health concerns that are prevalent at this time.”
Spirit of the North adds bringing in state-of-the-art equipment also helps attract healthcare professionals and encourages them to keep working in local hospitals.
That mission resonates with Brent Scheck and Jeff Stewart, co-owners of the family-owned-and-operated Copper Falls.
“We live and raise our children in Prince George, and want the best healthcare services available if and when it is needed,” they said.
“Healthcare has touched us in many ways already and it is our way of doing what we do best and working with those who support us to collectively have an impact…. It shows collaboration in the biggest way.”
Copper Falls is working with 45 contractors and suppliers to build the new home, which will be located at 130-4393 Cowart Rd.

In its 30-year history, the non-proift has purchased 675 pieces of healthcare equipment thanks to nearly $40 million donations.
