A way to get rid of your excess paper while also helping out the Prince George Crime Stoppers Society is set for this Saturday.

That's when it will be hosting its fall Shred It event in the parking lot at Prince George Senior Secondary School, 2901 Griffiths Ave. just off Highway 97, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The service, to be provided courtesy of Shred-it Mobile Shredding Service, is available for a minimum donation of $5 per bag or box and is not meant for business owners.

For another $5 donation you can enjoy a Mr. Mike's burger when a community barbecue is on from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

"This is a chance for you to shred personal or important documents, helping to ensure you will not be a victim of identity theft," organizers said in a notice. "We will be following provincial health guidelines and ask you to physically distance and wear a mask."

All proceeds will go towards supporting the Prince George Crime Stoppers Society which provides a way for people to leave tips anonymously about suspected crime in the city.

During 2019, tips to Prince George Crime Stoppers led to more than $1.8 million worth of drugs seized, more than $500,000 in cash recovered, 14 arrests, six cases resolved and 11 cash rewards handed out.
