Prince George RCMP Cst. Candace Slaunwhite and the detachment's B Watch were named the 2014 officer and general duty watch of the year by Prince George Crime Stoppers Society on Wednesday.

Crime Stopper president Jack Hooper said Slaunwhite, a member of the detachment's drug task force, has been instrumental in using Crime Stoppers tips to catch offenders. In one case, she converted a tip into a search warrant that led to multiple arrests for drug trafficking.

The three other finalists for the award were Cst. Jason Rumming, Cst. Kate Walaszckyk and Cst. Bill Brown.

It was the second time in as many years that B Watch has earned the award.

"B Watch has been instrumental in using Crime Stoppers tips to close cases, close files and make arrests," Hooper said. "That's the reason Crime Stoppers is here, to help members with anonymous tips from the public."

Hooper presented that award to Staff Sgt. Marc Pelletier during a ceremony at the detachment.

Prince George RCMP Supt. Warren Brown said Crime Stoppers plays a valuable role in making the city a safe place to live.
