Nearly 30 people were displaced this weekend after an apartment fire Saturday night.

Prince George Fire Rescue responded to the building in the 1600 block of Queensway Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. Crews found smoke coming from a ground-floor suite and contained the blaze there while 27 tenants took temporary refuge in a city bus.

The entire building sustained enough smoke damage that it wasn't deemed safe for residents to return to their homes. The city activated its emergency social services program to register and provide shelter for the displaced tenants.

Hours later, at 3 a.m., crews were called to the 2200 block of Redwood Street to put out a fire in a three-storey townhouse complex.

Damage was limited to the stove area and surrounding cabinets.

Occupants from the building were safely evacuated, though no one from the affected suite was present at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries in either blaze and the estimated value of damage is currently unknown.
