COVID cases continue to rise in northern B.C.

More than 200 new cases reported in the Northern Health region on Friday

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region continued to increase on Friday.

The B.C. Ministry of Health and B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported 227 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Friday. The number of active cases in the region grew to 1,346, up from 1,231 on Thursday.

No new COVID-related deaths were reported in the Northern Health region on Friday, leaving the north’s death toll from the pandemic at 281.

As of Friday, 24 people in the Northern Health region were hospitalized with COVID-19, including three listed in critical care by the B.C. CDC.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been 21,648 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of which 19,773.

As of Friday, 89 per cent of British Columbians aged five and older had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 83.3 per cent had received a second dose. In addition, 32.6 per cent of adults have received a third, booster dose.

Nearly 9.96 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 443,937 doses in the Northern Health region.
