The B.C. Ministry of Health reported two new COVID-related deaths in the Northern Health region on Wednesday.
The deaths bring the region’s death toll from the pandemic up to 315, according to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
As of Wednesday, 42 people in the region were hospitalized with COVID-19, including seven in critical care, the B.C. CDC reported. That is a slight drop from Tuesday, when 43 people were hospitalized, including 11 in critical care.
The B.C. CDC reported 59 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region on Wednesday. Starting last month, the CDC no longer reports the number of active cases.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been a total of 28,573 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Heath region.
During the week of Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, 185 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Prince George local health area, the B.C. CDC reported.
As of Wednesday, 90.6 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.3 per cent received a second dose. In addition, 55.8 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received a booster dose.
As of Monday, 87 per cent of eligible people in the Prince George local health area had received at least one dose and 80 per cent had received a second shot, the B.C. CDC reported.
More than 11.35 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 520,491 doses in the Northern Health region.
