COVID-19 claims another life in Northern Health, hospitalizations remain high

There are 66 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the region with 15 in critical care

COVID-19 pandemic claimed another more life in the Northern Health region, the B.C. Ministry of Health reported Friday.

After two deaths in Northern Health reported yesterday, the region has now lost 307 people due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

In the past 24 hours, 12 new deaths have been reported in B.C. including the additional death in Northern Health, bringing the province’s death toll to 2,851.

The province is also reporting 583 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. including 75 new cases in Northern Health but has noted the new and total case numbers are provisional due to a delayed data referesh.

The number of hospitalizations in Northern Health also continues to remain high. While there are currently 599 people hospitalized with COVID-19 throughout the province, there are 66 people hospitalized in Northern Health and 15 of those patients are in critical care.

As of Friday nearly 11.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine has been administered in B.C. and 90.6 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.1 per cent have received their second dose.
