City councillor Garth Frizzell has added a new line to his resume.

On Tuesday, Frizzell started in his new role as partnership and innovation officer at UNBC. The new position in the school's research department will catalogue and bridge knowledge on the hill with the needs of business and industry.

"It gets fairly complex, but the simple idea is there's a lot of smart people at the university, there's a lot of needs, especially now that the economy is going so well in northern B.C. and we want to connect the one to the other," Frizzell said.

The full-time position requires domestic and international travel, as per the job posting which closed to applications in mid June.

A UNBC graduate, Frizzell remains president of his self-started Terra Cognita Software Systems, but says he won't be active in the daily operations.

"It's kind of poignant going through the same places I went through in '96 when I first arrived here and seeing the change and the excitement of starting a new thing," he said.
