City council has a light agenda for its first meeting of 2015.

Among the few items of business for the group will be a report from the advisory committee on accessibility which is offering council a handful of suggestions to improve support for their mandate of removing physical and social barriers around the community.

The recommendations come on the request of Mayor Lyn Hall, who attended a Dec. 10 committee meeting, according to a report from chair Vincent Sherry.

The committee is recommending that council increase capital funding for sidewalk improvements, appoint an informal council liaison to attend the monthly meetings, schedule a presentation regarding accessibility issues for council and staff and complete a review of accessibility issues at city-owned facilities, with particular emphasis on washrooms and stairs.

Also on the agenda is a presentation from John Scott, a representative from the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Scott will ask for council support in the matter of reopening the Veterans Affairs office which was closed in 2012.

Council will also be asked to give final reading to changes to the city's subdivision and development bylaw that is supposed to reduce the amount of rubber-stamp applications coming before the group.

Finally, the group will receive a report from Initiative Prince George's board of directors, recommending council appoint Alice Downing to the economic development branch's board.
