Council voted unanimously to donate $5,000 to St. John's Ambulance to help set up a Mobile First Response Unit.

The city has an operating contingency for major one-time expenses, council heard at Monday's meeting.

Staff recommended council pull from the $50,000 from the $750,000 contingency fund to create a "council contingency" that could fund initiatives like the St. John's Ambulance's request.

"The city has a grants program in place for non-profit organizations but there is no established funding source in the city budget for a donation request done through a delegation," the report noted.

A previous council eliminated that council-specific contingency, but staff said it is useful for small requests.
