Elementary school students will get a chance to get tips from a player on the Prince George Cougars hockey team as part of a campaign to encourage health, wellness and community giving among northern B.C.'s youth.
Entering its sixth year, the Spirit of Healthy Kids program is being run in partnership with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and Northern Health.
Players on the Western Hockey League team will appear in participating classrooms via video. Students then record their healthy activities in tracking sheets for the next two weeks and hand them in to their teacher.
Schools have an incentive to participate. The school with the highest overall level of participation could win a $5,000 grant. All schools with a minimum of 50-per-cent participation will be entered into a draw for five $1,000 grants.
To qualify for the grant, the tracking sheets must be handed in by March 16.
Interested schools can join the program by emailing [email protected] or calling 250-596-9963. The complete program can be accessed by visiting the SOHK school program page on the Cougars’ website www.pgcougars.com.
