The Prince George Cougars won't be able to hit the ice this year for their annual Teddy and Toque Toss game, so the team is taking the charity event online.

Instead of donating toys and winter clothing items at the game, the Cougars are asking their fans to make an online cash donation to the Salvation Army Prince George. Fans can donate by going online to the Cougars' website (www.pgcougars.com) or to the local Salvation Army's website (www.sapg.ca).

“The Cougars’ partnership with The Salvation Army is a time-honoured tradition that truly

does 'Give Hope Today' – we are grateful for the continued work that the Cougars undertake for the benefit of our community,” Salvation Army Major Neil Wilkinson said in a press release. “This year, more than ever, we depend on the partnerships that we have to continue to meet the rising unmet needs in our community.”

There are five donation tiers – Starting Line-Up, Hat-Trick, All-Star, Hall of Fame and Assist – which range from $25 to $500.

“Our annual Teddy (and) Toque Toss game is a tradition, and while it’s a lot of fun for everyone, we are very concerned that our inability to hold the game this year is leaving a major gap for the Salvation Army and the families who are in need of the many thousands of items donated each year,” Cougars vice-president Andy Beesley said in a press release. “I would encourage all fans to think about what they would have spent coming to the game: their tickets, concession food, items for throwing onto the ice, and consider donating that sum as a wonderful way to support our community. On behalf of our entire organization, I want to say thank you very much to all of our fans who are able to offer their support.”
