Convenience store, counselling service headed to light industrial areas

City council grants two temporary use permits
Prince George City Hall

City council granted two temporary use permits during their regular meeting on Monday, each to last three years and both to allow alternate uses on properties zoned light industrial.

Here's a look:

  • To establish a convenience and grocery store in a currently vacant location at 1798 Nicholson St. S.

The plan is to cater to both international and domestic students attending nearby College of New Caledonia and living in the area.

  • To allow for a counselling and provide office space for professional services at 650 3rd Ave.

The property is home to an environmental consulting service that currently has only one or two staff members using the space and on an infrequent basis, according to a a letter to the City.

The plan is to rent one of the internal offices to help pay for the costs of heating and lighting the space as well as defray the cost of property taxes.

Similar uses are already permitted on nearby properties, staff noted in recommending approval.

Council unanimously approved both applications.
