The Prince George Community Foundation presented cheques totaling more than $40,000 to a group of local charities, agencies and organizations in a ceremony on Wednesday.

Community foundation president Ray Noonan said each of the organizations received the profits from the endowment funds managed by the foundation in their name.

"These organizations are... leveraging that and doing good work in the community," Noonan said.

Recipients included the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum, Child Development Centre, the College of New Caledonia, Cranbrook Hill Greenway, Fraser Fort George Museum Society, Hospice Endowment Fund, the Prince George Public Library, Community Arts Council, Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Springboard to Success Scholarship Fund, Theatre Northwest, Two Rivers Gallery, Prince George United Way and UNBC.

"The market is holding steady and our prudent investments continue to show positive earnings," Noonan said. "We are happy to return the income earned on these funds to those in the community who are making a difference."

In addition, the foundation unveiled a $5,000 endowment fund in the name of Andy Beesley, the 2013 Citizen of the Year.

The proceeds of the fund will be used to help cover the costs of the foundation's operations, Noonan said.
