More than $40,000 went to 17 local organizations during the Prince George Community Foundation Spring Grant Award Reception Wednesday night at Exploration Place.
The Prince George Cantata Singers received $2,500 to help present the 2011 ChorFest May 20 to 22, which is the provincial choral conference for adult and young adult singers where more than 180 singers will participate.
This provincial event has not been held in Prince George since 1985.
"Rehearsals, workshops, the concert -- all of this takes a lot of money to put together so we're really grateful to the Community Foundation for assisting us," said Julia Whittaker, publicity and marketing chair for the Prince George Cantata Singers.
"Their donation helps not only the Cantata Singers but also the Prince George Symphony Orchestra because we are combining forces to help make this three-day festival come together."
The Community Foundation's pledge of Giving Something Back holds true of the endowment fund program set in place with the amount exceeding $5 million in its 15th year of existence.
"We are pleased to recognize that all of these organizations have contributed a great deal to the quality of our community and all of them are supported by very dedicated volunteers," said Prince George Community Foundation president, Lorraine Grant.
The foundation presented $40,000 in adjudicated grants in the following categories:
Arts & Culture -- Prince George Cantata Singers, Prince George Community Radio Society, Bel Canto Choirs Association

There was also two grants given in support of the 2008 B.C. Seniors Games Legacy Endowment Fund.
It is a fund the Community Foundation is extremely pleased to host and it was wonderful to see applications geared towards the intention of the legacy fund, which is seniors in sports, said Grant.
The SilverTip Archery Society and North Central Seniors Association were the recipients of $500 each from this fund.
