A local conference to generate better relationships between industrial developers and local land-use stakeholders is set to open today.
The Coming Together Conference was created by the Resources North Association to help improve communication and uncover possible synergies between all the parties involved in economic development work underway or proposed for the region.
"As northern B.C. prepares for an estimated $50 billion in resource and infrastructure development, people want to better understand both the risks and benefits of new mines, energy, pipelines, port expansion, new highways, re-energized forest industry, bioenergy, and hydro developments," said Melanie Karjala, the association's business development strategist. "The conference will bring together representatives of aboriginal communities, local governments, small and large tenure holders, business and industry and post-secondary researchers and students to share best practices, co-operative land management models, and better understand how to integrate land and resource management with community priorities."
The conference takes place at the Prince George Civic Centre today and Thursday.
