The drivers of a pickup truck and a tractor trailer unit appeared to have escaped with minor injuries following a collision early Thursday morning near the Brookside Resort on Highway 16 East.

Vanderhoof RCMP, who were called to the scene at about 5:30 a.m., said the driver of the eastbound pickup may have lost control before colliding with the oncoming tractor trailer unit.

"Witnesses advise that the tractor trailer driver was able to steer away from the cab of the truck but collided with the back portion of it causing extensive damage to the box area but the cab portion was untouched," Vanderhoof RCMP said.

"As a result of the collision, both vehicles went off the road and into a ravine."

The stretch was reduced to single-lane alternating for 5-6 hours to remove the vehicles and clear up the debris. The site was also checked for hazardous waste.

The drivers were taken to hospital as a precaution.
