It will be business as usual for College of New Caledonia students when classes resume Monday.

But beyond that day there could be some major changes in store for CNC to mitigate the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. That depends on if the college follows the lead of other post-secondary schools in the country enacting plans this week to keep students away from their campuses as they transition to alternate forms of instruction.

“All classes and operations at CNC’s six campuses are scheduled to continue as normal on Monday, March 16, 2020,” said Sarah Kesler, CNC’s associate director of communication services, in an email to The Citizen. The health and safety of students, employees and the community continues to be the top priority for CNC.

“CNC is actively developing a COVID-19 response plan with proactive measures. This is being done in collaboration the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training; the Ministry of Health; and with guidance from the Provincial Health Officer.”

The college operates campuses in Prince George, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Burns Lake and Quesnel.

Kesler said more information about the college’s plan will be released early this week.
