Batten down the hatches, we’re in for some cold weather this week.
The weather office at Environment Canada is warning people to take shelter. Today’s high will only reach -21 C and wind chills could dip to -38 C tonight. There’s a risk of frost bite to exposed flesh when it’s that cold. North winds of 15-20 kilometres per hour are predicted for at least the next two days and wind chill will be a threat on Tuesday as well..
The forecast low tonight is -27 C. Periods of snow are in the forecast for Tuesday with two-four centimetres on the way and a high of -21 C and low of -30 C expected.
The cold will continue Wednesday and Thursday under sunny skies. The high/low for Wednesday will be -21/-31 C and on Thursday -19/-25.
A warming trend is in the forecast for the weekend with highs close -10 C and lows around -23 C and more seasonable temperatures are expected next week.
Until this weekend, winter has been a breeze in the central Interior region of the province, with only a couple of days approaching the -20 C mark and not a lot of snow. The normal high for this time of year is -3 C and the normal low is -13 C.
