Those with green thumbs will be interested in a new program College of New Caledonia is offering.
To be delivered at CNC's Quesnel campus, the horticulture technician foundation level program begins March 29 and continues until Dec. 3. Sixteen students will be accepted.
It includes courses in horticulture plant science, horticultural practices, plant health and pest management, plant identification, soil management, basic supervision and equipment maintenance and safety.
Completing the program opens the door to 12 different career areas such as botanical gardens, nurseries, municipal and regional parks departments, garden centres and retail nurseries, floriculture, landscape contracting and grounds management and lawn care.
Graduates will receive level one and two technical training credit and 500 work-based hours credit towards either the landscape horticulture or production horticulture apprentice program. Individuals may transfer into level three of landscape horticulture apprentice program or level three of the production horticulture apprentice program. They'll also earn credit toward a two-year diploma program.
