Sixteen carloads of coal spilled but no one was hurt after a train derailed near Shelley Wednesday morning.
The derailment involved a train traveling from Jasper to Prince George and left 16 coal cars on the tracks.
"Everything will be cleaned up and the track will be cleared by tonight," said Rich Miller, Prince George CN Rail general manager.
Miller said the 150-car train was crewed by two trainmen and a trainee. It was running at track speed, 35-40 miles per hour. The crew was alerted to the derailment when an emergency brake was triggered after an air hose came loose.
The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
The incident took place near Beaver Road. Citizen reporters close to the scene were threatened with arrest and barred from the site by CN staff. Reporters saw heavy equipment being unloaded and taken down a private road owned by the railway firm.
